C. Except for a few white-gold coins, early Greek coins were silver. The first gold coins were produced toward the end of the Peloponnesian War. The first bronze coins appeared in the late 5th century B. C. Roman coins were introduced in Greece around the mid-1st century B. C. Bronze coins became more popular, though all coins varied from period to period.
