394 / ICELAND ICELAND Iceland’s coinage was originally that of its neighbors, Norway and Denmark. Although an independent republic, Iceland did not have its own currency, the krona, until 1922. In 1944, new denominations were added. In 1981, a new krona was introduced that was equal to 100 old kronur.
